Producer John Snyder had long envisioned capturing the brilliance of Art Pepper on record, and his dream materialized during a week of performances at the iconic Village Vanguard in New York. Although Pepper was under contract with Contemporary Records, the label head, Les Koenig, recorded the performances, leading Snyder to secure a promise from Pepper to create an album for his own label, Artists House, in the future.
The result? A remarkable collection of four albums, including ‘Artworks’, originally released in 1984. This stunning jazz vinyl features Pepper’s interpretations of beloved standards such as ‘Body and Soul’, Charlie Parker’s ‘Donna Lee’, and Antonio Carlos Jobim’s ‘Desafinado’. With the addition of several bonus tracks, this album is a must-have for any jazz aficionado.
