Arthur Russell: Love Is Overtaking Me – The Essential Collection

Love Is Overtaking Me, released in 2008, showcases 21 captivating demos and home recordings of previously unreleased pop, folk, and country songs from the iconic Arthur Russell. Although much of the recognition for Russell’s extraordinary talent came posthumously after his passing in 1992, he had already garnered a devoted following of fellow artists eager to collaborate with him during his lifetime.

This collection includes remarkable recordings produced by the legendary John Hammond, known for his work with musical giants like Billie Holiday and Bob Dylan. Among the gems featured are collaborations with various formations of The Flying Hearts, a project Russell initiated with Ernie Brooks, featuring talents such as Jerry Harrison and Rhys Chatham. The album also highlights contributions from other projects, including The Sailboats and Turbo Sporty.
