Stumpwork by Dry Cleaning – Limited Edition White Vinyl

Stumpwork, the eagerly awaited follow-up to their 2021 debut New Long Leg, launched on October 21, 2022. This South London band, consisting of Nick Buxton (drums), Tom Dowse (guitar), Lewis Maynard (bass), and Florence Shaw (vocals), recorded their first studio album in just two weeks with renowned producer John Parish at Rockfield Studios. The result was a remarkable critical and commercial triumph, reaching #4 on the UK Album Charts and earning spots on numerous best-of-2021 lists.

Building on this success, the band returned to rural Wales late in 2021 to collaborate again with Parish and engineer Joe Jones. This time, the creative environment nurtured freedom and a willingness to experiment, leading to a sonic palette that is both expansive and intimate. The album delves into a variety of themes, from existential reflections to heartfelt tributes to loved ones lost, all delivered with Dry Cleaning’s signature surrealistic lyrics.

Furious alternative rock anthems intertwine with jangle pop and ambient sounds, showcasing the band’s diverse influences and deep musicality. With the debut album’s pressure behind them, Dry Cleaning has crafted an ambitious and rewarding work that solidifies their status as one of the most intelligent acts in the UK indie music scene.
