Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Richard Ashcroft’s Acoustic Hymns Vol. 1, featuring twelve newly recorded acoustic renditions of his iconic tracks. This album encompasses a remarkable journey through Richard’s solo career and his legendary time with The Verve.
Initiated after the lifting of lockdown measures, Ashcroft embarked on this project to rekindle the sense of community, inviting talented musicians and cherished friends to collaborate once again. The result is a diverse and fresh take on classic songs, with some arrangements echoing the timelessness of the originals, while others adopt a completely new direction in this stripped-back format. This journey showcases Richard’s vocals with a renewed passion and depth, breathing new life into his beloved lyrics.
Produced alongside his long-time collaborator Chris Potter, the album features Richard’s regular live band enhanced by special guests. Notably, Wil Malone’s string arrangements were recorded at the famed Abbey Road Studios, and contributions from Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers) on piano, Roddy Bloomfield leading the brass section, and Steve Wyreman (Leon Bridges, Vic Mensa) on acoustic guitar and backing vocals make this collection truly exceptional.
