Initially known as The Jaybirds and later Blues Trip, Ten Years After emerged in 1966, featuring members Alvin Lee, Leo Lyons, Chick Churchill, and Ric Lee. The band’s name reflects a decade since Elvis Presley made his mark on the music scene. As the first act signed to the Chrysalis agency, they quickly built a reputation for their electrifying live performances, with Alvin Lee earning the title of ‘the fastest guitar in the west.’
Their self-titled debut album, released in October 1967, showcases a remarkable blend of covers and original tracks, including Willie Dixon’s classic ‘Spoonful’ and Al Kooper’s ‘I Can’t Keep from Crying Sometimes.’ Produced by Mike Vernon and Gus Dudgeon at Decca’s West Hampstead Studios, this album stands as one of the most confident blues rock debuts of the 1960s music era.
