Ye Vagabonds present their highly anticipated second album, Nine Waves, released under Rough Trade’s River Lea label on May 13th. This stunning collection was recorded amidst the serene beauty of the Dublin Mountains at Hellfire Studios, with production by the talented John ‘Spud’ Murphy, known for his work with acclaimed artists like black midi and Lankum.
Nine Waves showcases 11 captivating tracks that weave together traditional and original songs, offering listeners a rich tapestry of sound. The album follows the duo’s award-winning single, I’m A Rover, which earned them the RTE Radio One Folk Award for Best Traditional Folk Track. Ye Vagabonds have also been recognized as the Best Folk Group at the 2021 ceremony, establishing their legacy as one of the most awarded acts in the genre.
The brotherly harmonies of Diarmuid and Brían Mac Gloinn are complemented by the skilled contributions of Kate Ellis on cello, Caimin Gilmore on double bass, and Ryan Hargadon on piano and saxophone. Additional textures are added by Cormac Begley’s concertina and Alain McFadden’s harmonium, enriching the listening experience with a delightful blend of traditional folk music.
